Speech and Language Assessments
At Aspris wellbeing centre we offer Speech and Language Therapy assessment to support individuals struggling with communication difficulties. Whether caused by developmental delays, neurological conditions, or trauma, speech and language challenges can significantly impact daily life. Our certified therapists conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the nature of these difficulties and provide targeted interventions to improve communication skills. We focus on enhancing speech clarity, language comprehension, and social communication, empowering individuals to express themselves confidently and connect with those around them. At Aspris our goal is to help children find their voice and thrive. Below is the list of assessments performed by our speech and language therapists:
- Preschool Language Scale fifth edition (PLS5): The Preschool Language Scale (PLS5) is designed for use with children aged birth through 7;11 to assess language development and identify children who have a language delay or disorder. The test aims to identify receptive and expressive language skills in the areas of attention, gesture, play, vocal development, social communication, vocabulary, concepts, language structure, integrative language, and emergent literacy. The PLS 5 aids the clinician in determining strengths and weaknesses in these areas in order to determine the presence and type of language disorder (e.g., receptive, expressive, and mixed), eligibility for services and to design interventions based on norm referenced and criterion referenced scores.
- Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals fifth edition (CELF5): The Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals (CELF5) is designed to assess a student’s language and communication skills in a variety of contexts, determine the presence of a language disorder, describe the nature of the language disorder and plan for intervention or treatment. The CELF5 is a comprehensive and flexible assessment procedure used with children and adolescents aged 5-21. The test identifies a student’s language strengths and weaknesses and can be used to determine eligibility for services, plan curriculum relevant treatment, recommend classroom language adaptations or accommodations and provide performance-based assessment that corresponds to educational objectives.
- SSI4 – Stuttering Severity Instrument: Stuttering Severity Instrument–Fourth Edition (SSI-4) is a reliable and valid norm-referenced stuttering assessment that can be used for both clinical and search purposes, for individuals from 2 years old onwards. It measures stuttering severity in both children and adults in the four areas of speech behavior:
- frequency
- duration
- physical concomitants
- naturalness of the individual’s speech
- TAPS4 – Language Processing assessment: The TAPS-4 provides information about language processing and comprehension skills across three intersecting areas: phonological processing, auditory memory and listening comprehension. These areas underpin the development of effective listening and communication skills and are critical to the development of higher order language skills, including literacy skills. It is standardized for Ages 5 through 21.
- CAPs- Clinical Assessment of Pragmatics: The Clinical Assessment of Pragmatics (CAPs) is a norm-referenced video-based evaluation of pragmatic language skills for children and young adults ages 7 through 18 years. The CAPs is administered using the USB key or the WPS® Online Evaluation System™ (OES) to display video scenes of real people in social situations. Following administration, the Record Form is used to obtain scoring information. Online scoring support is available on the OES at platform.wpspublish.com. Instructions for administering, scoring, and interpreting the CAPs are included in the CAPs Manual, in Chapters 3 and 4 in particular.
