Supporting Students of Determination

It is well recognised that Students of Determination (SOD) can be faced with unique challenges and are often left isolated within a class of peers, leaving them feeling that they are different and that they somehow, they do not ‘fit.’ Conversely, it can also be difficult for educational staff to know how best to provide effective support for children and young people identified with special educational needs.

Aspris training provision ensures that special needs educators are effectively supported to develop crucial skills, enabling them to create meaningful learning opportunities for SOD to be given the same educational chances as their peers.

Aspris training services provide:

  • Specialised educators, experts who use tailored instruction, developing knowledge and understanding of strategies that meet student’s unique abilities and learning styles
  • A framework to break down barriers and provide equal educational opportunities for all children and young people.

Teachers and support staff are guided in how to effectively create stimulating, enriching, learning environments and how to provide opportunities to enhance SOD performance, promoting a culture of wider understanding and empowerment for staff and students.

Mental Health First Aid

Step-by-Step Training Programme

Mental health first aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person experiencing or developing a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety disorders or experiencing a mental health crisis situation, such as a panic attack.

Mental health first aid training is aimed at mainstream and special school provisions, a training programme that teaches people how to help a person who is experiencing varying degrees of worsening mental health issues.

We are offering an online Mental Health First Aid, evidence-based, training programme to raise understanding of mental health and gain actionable, practical skills which will enable people to identify, understand and help guide staff who may need help and support.

Like traditional first aid training, mental health first aid training does not teach people to treat or diagnose mental health but trains people how to offer initial support until appropriate professional help is received or until the crisis is resolved.

Our training programme helps create a safe, productive workspace that supports employees.

Our mental health training is fully certified and follows the nationally recognised Mental Health First Aid (Adult) course, (16 contact hours) and covers how to:

  • Identify and assist a person in the early stages of development of a mental health problem
  • Understand what causes or triggers symptoms and what coping techniques work to help a person manage their mental health
  • Support identification of common warning signs of mental illnesses, such as mood, behaviour and cognitive changes
  • Support the sharing of strategies to promote self help
  • Explore relaxation and wellness programmes for a quicker recovery
  • Guide a person towards professional help

We can offer the full Mental Health First Aid course online, providing the same detailed training as in-person sessions and the training is fully certified.
